The Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa’s discounted room rate is $185.00, plus a daily $10.00 resort charge and taxes per night. For more than two adult guests per room, there is an additional $50.00 per person (plus tax) per night charge.

Prevailing rates may apply after this date or when the group rooms are sold out, whichever occurs first.  Room are subject to availability.

Notice to NASRO Summit Attendees:  We understand that there are companies claiming to have some relationship with NASRO and offering discounted hotel rates.  Rest assured that these companies have no such relationship whatsoever with NASRO.  Theses companies may not have a block of rooms but merely resell rooms they have secured from another source; rooms may require full prepayment, are non-refundable and may be subject to steep change fees; and, room types may not be guaranteed.  Reservations should only be made directly with the hotel.

Self-parking is free for hotel guest.

REGISTRATION RATE:

Early Bird Registration Rate (before September 15, 2017) is $350.

Regular Registration Rate (beginning September 16, 2017) is $400.

CANCELLATIONS:

All cancellations  must be in writing and e-mailed to Emily Tarr at emily.tarr@nasro.org. Cancellations made by or after November 17, or no-shows, will forfeit all registration fees.

NASRO reserves the right to cancel or reschedule training. If NASRO cancels or reschedules training due to weather or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of NASRO, you are entitled to a full refund. NASRO is not responsible for travel arrangements, travel fees, or any expenses incurred by you as a result of such cancellations. If NASRO cancels a training in which you are enrolled, you will be contacted at the email address you provided when registering, so please be sure to provide a valid email address.

The National School Safety Leaders’ Summit: Keeping Students Safe in the Twenty-First Century will be held December 8-11, 2017 in Maui, Hawaii.  The School Safety Leaders’ Summit will bring together Police Chiefs, Sheriffs, Superintendents of Education, School Administrators, Juvenile Court Judges, School Resource Officers, School Board Members, and others who have a vested interest in school safety.  The School Safety Leaders’ Summit will feature nationally-known keynote speakers and breakout sessions.

 KEYNOTE PRESENTERS

Bernie James, J.D., Professor of LawBernie James

Bernie James, a professor at Pepperdine University, is a contributing editor to the NASRO Journal of School Safety. He specializes in Civil Rights, Constitutional Law, and Education Law, and is author of the textbook Education Policy and the Law: Cases and Commentary and numerous articles on law, education, and religion. He lectures in the United States and Canada on constitutional issues, and serves as a commentator for the national and local media discussing U.S. Supreme Court decisions.

Kristina Anderson, Virginia Tech Survivor and Founder of Koshka Foundation for Safe Schools    Anderson-230

Kristina Anderson is a survivor of the Virginia Tech tragedy and the founder of Koshka Foundation for Safe Schools, a non-profit which creates resources and content for raising the level of awareness toward campus safety for students, parents and educators. The foundation also works to provide resources and support for survivors of trauma.

As her perspective on life has significantly changed, Kristina travels extensively for trainings and presentations on emergency preparedness, safety, and motivational speaking with law enforcement and corporate audiences.

Frank DeAngelis was a staff member at Columbine High School in the Jeffco School District in Littleton, CO, since 1979, starting as a Social Studies teacher and filling the roles of Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Assistant Football Coach before becoming the Principal in 1996. He retired in June 2014 after 35 years at Columbine High School.  Frank has been involved in numerous professional activities and associations, and has received multiple awards for his coaching and leadership skills. He is presently serving as a consultant for safety and emergency management for Jeffco School District and continues to speak about recovery after a school tragedy at a variety of conferences, and has assisted as a consultant after a number of other violent school events.

Dr. Kimberly Miller is a licensed psychologist and a sought after law enforcement speaker, consultant and trainer who has been inspiring and motivating individuals in our profession for 12 years. Dr. Miller has worked with agencies of all sizes and is a highlighted speaker at national, regional and state law enforcement conferences. Dr. Miller is known for her strength-based approach to her work and the skill-based, engaging training and consultation services she offers. Dr. Miler’s session will focus on the leadership needed for a proper response before and during a critical incident.
